e-DENT is a software solution that enables dental surgeons to read and analyze images and videos recorded remotely with an intra-oral digital camera using fluorescence

 Context
Equitable access to oral-dental care is a real public health issue on a worldwide scale. At this time, no single country has found a way to give its entire population access to dental surgeon expertise. In fact, many different population segments do not have easy access to a dental surgeon, starting with individuals experiencing decreasing levels of independence, but also including people living in secluded areas, workers on remote sites, and even sailors, and army personnel in their barracks and on missions.

Dentistry practitioners need a variety of information in order to establish a proper diagnosis, such as high-quality images and the patient’s medical information.

Benefits
Adapted ICT solutions and continuous improvements in technical equipment are now helping to increase the number of telemedicine projects. However, the dentistry profession has shown very little interest in this approach, despite significant need in the sector. We now have an opportunity to change the attitudes of dental surgeons in order to make oral-dental telemedicine a major tool for dentistry in public health. The e-DENT project seeks to become the first remote “dentist visit” solution to be deployed internationally.

Applications
Remote dentist visits for patients with difficulties accessing a dentist/dental surgeon.
