Presentation

The IJL laboratory at the University of Lorraine has developed a generator of reproducible and calibrated arc faults. This device enables the production of 4 different types of arcs (AC and DC arcs/ parallel or serial configuration). The measured arcs characteristics are reproducible. It is possible to regulate the arcs’ amplitude and duration. Temperature and pressure conditions can also be adjusted precisely.

This device can produce arcs between electrodes and cables. A system ensures the precise movement of electrodes during the test.

Competitive advantages

  • Arc reproducibility;
  • Control over experimental conditions;
  • Arc integration in analogic and numeric electronic circuit simulation tools.

Applications/Markets

  • Tests and certifications of domestic, automotive, or aeronautic circuits;
  • Test of arc fault detection circuit breakers.

Intellectual property

  • Patents 2961968 and WO2011161200;
  • License for device industrialization or laboratory tests.
