The invention relates to novel liposomal compositions made of original archaebacterial membrane lipid analogues and their use for drug delivery and/or RNA or DNA delivery.

These unusual synthetic lipids with a well-defined chemically structure, available on a multi-gram scale, are incorporated into conventional liposomes (standard phospholipids) for improving in vivo stability of formulations and drug targeting.

Liposomes made with archaebacterial membrane lipid analogues constitute a novel family of drug/gene delivery system that demonstrate higher stability to several conditions in comparison with conventional lipids (greater range of temperature, pH. conditions).

These synthetics lipids are built into standard phospholipids to get the in vivo stability of formulation and the drug targeting better.
