A process, MAGSALIA, aimed at enhancing the detection of buried magnetic objects has been developed within a laboratory of the University of Brest. Thanks to this innovative tool, the exploratory phases are simplified and speeded up while profiting from 3-D tomography. MAGSALIA allows further developments for a real-time, or off-line, detection of small sources of substances through chemical quantifications and diffusion models for fluids (standard models).

The measurements are carried out, in continuous, by a sufficient number of sensors while they meet the plume. Their analysis gives the location of the pollutant source, its rate and the time at which diffusion has started. These data allow application of a remediation procedure at the lowest cost.
