Natural anti-microbial peptides: defensins as novel antibiotics

In the progression context of bacterial resistance to classical antibiotics and nosocomial infections, Innova Proteomics has developed an innovative process based on a proteomic approach leading to the identification of bio-active peptides and proteins (with anti-infectious or anti-cancer activities). Thus, the company offers a novel class of molecules with anti-infectious activity: anti-microbial peptides. 26 new defensins from human origin were displayed, so far.

These natural molecules have broad-spectrum activity with an original mode of action and target multiple cell types. Innova Proteomics is currently working with molecules issued from marine biological sources which are very rich in anti-infectious peptides.
