DESCRIPTION

Vesicles encapsulating active agents such as essential oils showing antibacterial properties and efficacy against gingival bleeding.

These vesicles are in fact oil-based nanoparticles of organogel creating a colloidal dispersion.

Organogel is a semi-solid material composed of a liquid organic phase within a three-dimensional, cross-linked network. In other words, this is a way to gelify oils thanks to organogelators. Organogelators control the temperature stability and mechanical resistance of the organogel.

This type of formulation has several advantages:

  • It immobilizes active agents (essential oil) while preserving the liquid properties (the active agent is bioavailable as there is diffusion barrier).
  • It is very stable compared to a standard emulsion allowing storage for several months.
  • Gelation gives photoprotection to the active agents.

APPLICATIONS

This new formulation can be used within:

  • Toothpaste
  • Mouthspray
  • Mouthwash for instance

It is alcohol free.
