DESCRIPTION
The number, the shape, the thickness and the size of the membranes may be chosen and their core may be empty or filed with either a solution or a gel of a chosen biopolymer. Gas exchanges may happen. Several cellular types may be cultivated or co-cultivated in each compartment: fibroblasts, chondrocytes, endothelial cells or artificial organ such as Langerhans islets. Capsules have millimetric to centimetric dimensions (2mm-3cm).
STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT
What has been already done :
• Cultures of chondrocytes, keratenocytes, cancerous cells, co-culture of osteoprogen and endothelial cells
• Cells can be kept 6 months
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Patent patents in EP
Priority date: March 2, 2006 (EP06 726 215.4)
ADVANTAGES / NOVELTY
• Capsules can be adapted on demand to the application
• Size control of the capsules (2 mm – 3 cm)
• Possibility to have a gelled core or containing a liquid to be injected
• Reproducible capsules
• Easy scale transposition for industrial applications
• Use of conventional, non sophisticated equipments
• Reliability and safety: partial use of an alcohol fully eliminated at the end of the process
APPLICATIONS
• Biomedical fields: pharmaceutical devices, bioreactor
• Pharmaceutical, cosmetics: preservation/protection of active principles, controlled release, encapsulation of active principles
• Agriculture (plant health, fertilizing, fight against insects…)
• Horticulture (products without ground)
• Agrofood (enzymes immobilization)
