Polymers able to sorbe selectively targeted cationic elements and easily separable from the liquid effluent
Context
Some metal ions are present in the water and in proportions harmful to the intended use (drinking water, process water, washing water, etc…). It is then necessary to clean the aqueous effluents from certain ions.
The depollution treatments of metal cations are most often carried out by ion exchange, precipitation or filtration.
Benefits
Polymers developed in this project are capable of selectively trapping certain cations and have the ability to precipitate in the media, either by controlled temperature variation or as a result of the complexing of the metal cation. This behaviour makes them particularly easy to extract from the media by microfiltration or settling. In addition, the complexed polymers can be recycled/regenerated and the metal cations recovered.
Applications
Remediation of aqueous effluents
Separation of radioactive elements in aqueous effluents
