A new submarine instrument for the research of oilfield and aquifer has been developed in a laboratory specialized in oceanic studies. The technology consists in measuring the electronic and magnetic fields of the sedimentary rocks.

The novelty brought by this technology is combining two scientific methods in a single measurement technique. In fact, the instrument is able to record both the EM method (natural ElectroMagnetic activities of the rock) and the MCSEM method (Marine Controlled Source ElectroMagnetic signals).

This apparatus enables thus the study of rocks at different depths. It is particularly interesting for research in deep water, research generally limited when using the classical methods.

The instrument is also innovative when it comes to its internal architecture. Inside, the sensors are assembled and interconnected in an original manner. Moreover, this instrumentation is very light and manageable. As a consequence, it is possible to use several instrument of this kind at the same time to cover large submarine areas.
