T Waves Technologies leverages Terahertz electromagnetic waves to provide the world’s first imaging system that provides real-time information using a non-destructive technique to analyze internal aspects of materials.

Context
The scientific and industrial worlds are challenged with elaborating new materials in solid, liquid, and gaseous states. Understanding these materials and developing their manufacturing processes represents key steps that require appropriate technological means for measurement and inspection. To achieve this, various technologies derived from the fields of acoustics and electromagnetics are available, but there are still unresolved issues, such as: online control of composite materials, fine analysis of heterogeneities in plastic materials, and – for the pharmaceutical sector – online control of drug purity and accurate detection of counterfeit products. These issues require new technological methods that involve both the ability to penetrate into materials and high sensitivity to heterogeneities.

Benefits
Terahertz imaging distinguishes itself by its ability to penetrate material, making inspection possible without degradation. The target market for this type of application is quite large, notably for non-destructive evaluation and control, which includes material inspection and characterization technologies. Terahertz imaging is positioned within the radiography sector (intra-material imaging). Already present in the market, this segment is mainly covered by X-ray technologies, which present many drawbacks.

Applications
Scientific and industrial sectors:

- Imaging

- Non-destructive evaluation and control
