Elles sont capables d\u2019initier la tumeur et sont responsables des m\u00e9tastases \/ r\u00e9cidives et r\u00e9sistances aux traitements anti-canc\u00e9reux conventionnels. Les CSC se caract\u00e9risent par leur capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 se multiplier ind\u00e9finiment en s\u2019auto-renouvelant et en se diff\u00e9renciant (responsable de l\u2019h\u00e9t\u00e9rog\u00e9n\u00e9it\u00e9 tumorale), ou encore \u00e0 entrer en dormance de fa\u00e7on transitoire, ce qui leur permet d\u2019\u00e9chapper \u00e0 la plupart des traitements habituels, puisque ceux-ci ciblent majoritairement les cellules \u00e0 prolif\u00e9ration rapide. C\u2019est pourquoi, <strong>le d\u00e9veloppement de compos\u00e9s qui ciblent sp\u00e9cifiquement les CSC suscite un engouement dans les milieux acad\u00e9miques et industriels<\/strong>.
