Sulfated polysaccharides extracted from red algae show the same molecular architecture than natural skin component carbohydrate structures (glycosaminoglycans) like hyaluronic acid or heparin. That structural homology allows extracted polysaccharides to mimic several biological activities. In vitro studies shows good activities to modulate VEGF secretion in induced cellular stress conditions. Those results allows us to consider skin care applications especially for rosacea, atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, acne or skin redness.

Competitive Advantages

● Natural origin ingredient

● Several applications for skin care

● Application for cosmetics and dermocosmetics

Development Status

● Extraction process set up from raw material to characterized sulphated polysaccharides at the lab scale.

● POC in vitro : study on keratinocyte shows that VEGF production in cells treated with sulphated polysaccharides is inhibited in a inflammatory stress conditions. Red algae extract is a modulator of VEGF expression.

● POC in vitro : study on keratinocyte shows that IL8 production in cells treated with sulphated polysaccharides is not modified compared to control. Red algae extract is well tolerated by cells.

Business Opportunities
