Market Challenges
Data compression is the process of encoding information using fewer bits. Reducing the amount of data needed for the storage or transmission of a given piece of information requires the use of encoding technologies. Compression can be either lossy or lossless.:
• Lossless compression reduces bits by identifying and eliminating statistical redundancy, no information is lost
• Lossy compression reduces bits by removing unnecessary or less important information

Main challenges in the market rely on :
• Important compression ratios
• Limitation of quality loss
• Limitation of compression and decompression times
• Compatibility with a maximum of external applications


Innovative solution
The solution is composed of 9 algorithms : 1 image codec, 2 image compression applications for mobile phones, 1 video and sound application, 1 animated image algorithm. The image codec algorithms have been implemented in a new image format : 4Di. The main objectives of these technologies are the optimization of data compression, with highly reduced compression/decompression times, high quality of the decompressed data, low compression ratios, compatibility with external applications.

Development status
The image codec algorithms have been implemented in a new image format : 4Di. A demonstrator for the comparison with other formats has been developed (computer version) No software has been developed yet for the video and sound applications
