BACKGROUND

We have developed a new environmental-friendly process to eliminate microorganisms such as bacteria and virus in water (up to 7-log inactivation in 60 seconds).

This process is highly suitable in treatment plants for residential, industrial and livestock farming wastewater, in fish farming and aerated ponds and for well waters. This method fits with regulations linked to water reuse, or to water discharges in recreational waters.

KEY BENEFITS vs. STATE OF THE ART

Current methods use ozone, chlorine, UV or combination of these latter ones. Such methods are not environmental-friendly, expensive, and not efficient in terms of disinfection yields (not preventing of light or dark-repair).

Our method uses an optimized combination of UV-LED (UV-A and UV-C) which allows a quick decrease of viable microorganisms without any bacterial revival. The coupling of wavelengths in the UV-A and UV-C range allows to damage not only cells and DNA of microorganisms but also the DNA adducts, thus preventing DNA repair.

Development Status

Process optimization with selected microorganisms (various species and various strains) in batch and flow-scales.

Process tested on real samples issued from various wastewater discharges (àturbidity is not a restraint).

We are currently designing a reactor prototype to disinfect, in-line, larger volumes of wastewaters.

APPLICATIONS

Residential and industrial wastewater

Livestock farming wastewater

Fish farming and aerated ponds

Well water
