New process for glass hardness improvement by thermal poling

The main application of this technology is to improve glazing durability, scratch resistance and abrasion resistance.

All glass industry is concerned :

• building glazing,
• mirror of solar panels,
• screen of electronic devices.

DESCRIPTION

The observation of scratched glasses suggests the existence of phenomena that reveals more complex mechanisms that are basically governed by the mechanical properties of glass hardness.

In this context the University of Bordeaux developed a new process to improve hardness and durability by thermal poling of the glass.
